Fiscal Stewardship
Financial responsibility ensures that we receive good value for every dollar spent.
>>The Mentor Board of Education is committed to prudent fiscal management of the school district9s resources with the goal of
ensuring adequate funding to sustain the strategic plan and high quality education for our community9s children.
>>The Chief Financial Officer9s department operates will full transparency, posting all financial statements and records on our website
to be viewed by community members at any time. For the fourth year, we produced and mailed an annual financial report to all homes and
businesses in the district (November 2025). Please follow the QR Code above to revisit that report.
Great Return on Investment!
2025 Tax Year Effective Millage Rate
>>Our district is high-performing and our schools are a great
return on our community9s investment! We again received a
4.5 out of 5-star rating from the State of
Ohio. Locally, this ranks us second in Lake
County academically, while, at the same
time, our property taxes rank 2nd lowest in
Lake County.
>>The leadership team uses enrollment studies to track the decline in the student population that began
in 1996. This is an important financial indicator due to staffing. You may remember, peak enrollment in
Mentor Schools happened in the 1990s with more than 11,000 students in our schools compared to
almost 6,600 attending our schools today. One way we were able to cut costs in the past was to reduce
staffing numbers proportionately as student enrollment declined, but enrollment is projected to remain
relatively steady in our community in the coming years. We are currently operating at acceptable teacherpupil ratios in order to provide the well-rounded, high-quality education the children of our community
need and deserve.
